Here is an interview with Slayer from Kerrang!
Magazine about "Diabolus in Musica":
-
Slayer have given Kerrang! a unique insight into
their new album "Diabolus in Musica" - their first LP of allnew material
in nearly four years.
-
The record sees the band reverting to the more experimental
nature of their classic "South of Heaven" album, while retaining their
trademark heaviness.
-
As for that bizarre LP title, it apparently refers
to the darkest, most sinister chord music.
-
"Diabolus in Musica" was produced by Rick Rubin,
and it will be the first release under new distribution agreements between
Rubin´s American Recordings
-
and BMG in the UK and Columbia Records in the US;
ironically, Columbia are the label that rejected Slayer´s 1986 album
"Reign in Blood" over
-
the lyrics to the controversial song "Angel of Death".
-
Bassist/singer Tom Araya and guitarists Kerry King
and Jeff Hanneman gave Kerrang! an exclusive track-by-track guide
to their long
-
awaited comeback LP:

-
1. Bitter Peace
- "It´s a war song", says Hanneman. "It´s about how I feel
humans are, that we can´t get along".
-
2. Stain of Mind
- "It´s about some fucked-up character I made up", Hanneman says.
-
3. Love to Hate
- "We originally did that one for the soundtrack to the Howard Stern movie,
"Private Parts", says King, but I got dumped because they
-
needed more classic rock!"
-
4. Death´s Head
- "About a guy who likes killing women, then he forgets he does it", Hanneman
explains.
-
5. Screaming From the Sky
- "It´s a song about assassin", says Araya.
-
6. Overt Enemy
- "An anti-government song, an anti-people-in-authority song", says Hanneman.
"It just talks about people having much power".
-
7. Scrum
- "A song about rugby!", laughs King.
-
8. In the Name of God
- "That´s my little contribution to the Satanic underground!", King
notes.
-
9. Perversions of Pain
- "It´s about a "Hellraiser"-type being", explains King. I didn´t
base it on the movie, but you could apply that to it".
-
10. Desire -
"About someone who feels such a strong love for another person that he
needs to slice their neck", says Araya. It´s the OJ Simpson story!"
-
11. Point - "About
a frontline dude, who finds mines, kill snipers, tells people when to shut
up", says King.

The Japanese release of the album will also feature
two extra tracks, "Unguarded Instinct" and "Wicked", although there are
no plans for those songs to surface elsewhere at the moment.
-
Slayer (with a line-up now completed by the return
of new drummer Paul Bostaph, who replaces his own successor, John Dette)
are all set to
-
play in the UK at the Milton Keynes Bowl on June
20, as part of the massive Ozzfest
event.
